Windows 10 - Connect to WIFI with a Password

This one is for Ken so that he can connect to Wifi down at the club.

Your computer won't automatically connect to the internet when you take it to a new place. A laptop or tablet or phone connects to the Internet through Wifi (short-range wireless signal).

A Wifi connection is usually protected by a Wifi password which needs to be entered into the laptop. You only have to enter the password once, the laptop will remember it after that and automatically connect to that Wifi whenever it is near to it.

The following screenshots are from me connecting my laptop to a new Wifi connection.

1) When the laptop isn't connected to the Internet, you will see the small icon at the bottom of the screen, on the right. This is the Wifi icon.

2) Click on the Wifi icon and a pop-up window will appear similar to this screenshot -

The window shows a list of all the Wifi connections that the laptop can find. In this case, my Wifi is at the top of the list.

The little icons to the left of the Wifi names shows the strength of the Wifi signal. In this case, my Wifi shows as the strongest.

The word 'Secured' under the Wifi name means that you will have to enter a password to connect to it.

3) Click on the Wifi name and you will see the following screenshot -

Click on the box next to the words 'Connect automatically',

then click on the 'Connect' button.

4) Enter the password in the box underneath the words 'Enter the network security key'.

Click on the 'Next' button.

5) After a bit of thinking about it, the Wifi connection should appear similar to this screenshot with the word 'Connected' underneath it.

After this, the laptop will automatically connect to this wifi whenever it is in range.
