How to Rip music from a CD using Windows Media Player

‘Ripping’ is the name given to the process of copying music from a CD to a computer and changing it so that the computer can play it.

(Note: The music on the CDs that can be played in cars and CD players is in a different format to the music that can be played on a computer.)

1) Put the CD into the computer.


2) Start a program call ‘Windows Media Player’.
     (To see how to start a program click here).

3) The windows media player will look like this -



4) Set the ‘Rip’ settings to change the music format to ‘MP3’


5) Click on the ‘Rip CD’ option to start the ripping process - (the pop up window should only show the first time that you rip some music.)


6) The ripping process will do one music track at a time and save the completed tracks in the user’s music folder.



7) Once all the tracks have been ripped, you can view the music in the media player or in File Manager.
