What the heck is a Blog anyway?

Ok, just what is a blog? A large number of websites are blogs including probably the best know of all, Facebook.

A blog is a certain type of website where new articles are regularly added to it. The articles, known as ‘posts’, are usually shown in date order with the newest one at the top. Each post can have an area where people can leave comments.


Facebook has made a fair bit of money out of simple blogs. The posts on Facebook are usually fairly short and are followed by comments from other people. The ‘likes’ were a smart addition allowing people to acknowledge the post without having to make a comment.

The word ‘blog’ is a shortening of the word ‘weblog’. weblogs were a type of diary once used by network technicians to record their work. Each bit of work would be recorded as a post. The diary would be online and shared with other technicians.

This short article about a blog is itself a post. This blog is the ‘BAYC Tech News, Tutorials & Tips’ blog and can be reached from an icon on the front page of the BAY Centre website ‘bay.uk’ or found at ‘bayctech.blogspot.com’.
